About Us

From bouquets to centerpieces to ceremony arrangements, each piece skillfully and meticulously crafted for your wedding is a piece of living art. Every detail is important and significant. Wedding flowers are my passion and my art form is expressed through flowers. I have been designing for special celebrations since 1985.

Clients often collaborate with my creative and innovative ideas to refine their individual style and to explore options to customize their event. Each client who comes to my studio has dreams and visions, and implicit trust in my work. It is this trust and excited anticipation to see the breathtaking result on their wedding day that continue to inspire me to design.

Supporting local farmers whenever possible, I personally hand pick the highest quality flowers: roses, orchids, lilies, gardenias, the freshest seasonal as well as tropical selections.

Book early as we only service a limited number of events per weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can depend on us for all the things that make Flowers by Yip much more than just another full-service wedding and event floral studio - the pride, the attention to detail, the "personal touch", the commitment to excellence that has been our trademark through the decades.

History

John started working for Conroy's Flowers in the mid 80's after school. It was a nice change from working as a server at Straw Hat Pizza, where the florist owners frequently dined and recruited John to join their new staff.

For the next decade, John worked part-time at the shop or whenever he returned home from college. He studied Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Ornamental Horticulture at California Polytechnique State University, San Luis Obispo.

John studied under Charlotte Burns and Robert Gordon in the O.H. department.  He had many opportunities to participate in large scale design projects led by these industry leaders.

In 1987, John met classmate and mentor, Diana Frey, and began working for Diana's Fleurs in SLO. Many weekends were spent designing wedding flowers at prestigious venues, including Hearst Castle. Inspired by his mentor's artistry and style, John discovered that he too had a passion to create.

The creative journey continues today.  John's work is a combination of his love for flowers and passion for design.
